Rod R. Blagojevich Governmental
Internship
The Office of the Governor provides internship opportunities
for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in experiencing
the day-to-day operations of the chief executive’s office. The Governor’s
Office is responsible for overseeing the administration of state departments,
agencies, and boards and commissions. Working with the legislature, the Governor’s
office coordinates policy initiatives and the overall agenda for the state.
The goal of the Rod
R. Blagojevich Governmental Internship
is to provide students with the opportunity to become familiar with all aspects
of the operation of the Governor’s office. More specifically, interns
will assist administratively, aid in media relations, and, where appropriate,
respond to correspondence from Illinois citizens. Interns will be given as
much substantive work as possible and will interact directly with staff and
assist in state government.
Internships are available year-round on a semester/quarter length
basis. The Governor’s Office internship requires a minimum G.P.A. of
3.0. Applicants should be organized, self-motivated, and energetic individuals.
Students with strong writing and research skills are encouraged to apply.
Applicants should send a completed internship application form, a resume,
and a cover letter explaining their interest in being an intern in the Governor’s
office to: Andrew Barbeau, 100 West Randolph, Suite 16, Chicago, IL 60601.
Any questions regarding the application process or the program should be directed
to the Intern Coordinator at 312/814-2121.
Intern schedules are based on each student’s days and
hours of availability. While interns receive no stipend, academic credit-based
solely on each learning institution’s criteria may be earned. Our office
encourages students to send their materials in as early as possible as positions
fill quickly.
