07/09/08 - Governor Blagojevich acts to balance Fiscal Year 2009 budget deficit left by House House failure to pass revenue to support $2 billion in spending, forces Governor to make spending reductions SPRINGFIELD — Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today balanced the Fiscal Year 2009 budget after House Democrats failed to pass new funding to support a spending plan that was over $2 billion out of balance. The Governor was forced to veto $1.4 billion in initiatives after the House of Representatives clearly showed Wednesday that they did not intend to take any action on the measure. 06/24/08 - Governor Calls on House to Approve Funding Sources Passed by Senate, Avoid Budget Reductions If House fails to pass new revenue, $1.5 billion must be reduced CHICAGO – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today called upon the House of Representatives to pass revenues already approved by the Illinois Senate, warning that funding will be unavailable for $1.5 billion in spending if the Senate’s revenue package is not passed. Reductions as well as additional reserves would be required to close a $2 billion dollar shortfall in the Fiscal Year 2009 budget passed by the General Assembly in May.
