Capital to Invest in Communities and Safety
- Rebuild Communities Competitive Grant Program ($50 million)
- Funding for community-based organizations engaging in direct redevelopment or renewal projects that put people to work and restore neighborhood integrity.
- Eligible projects must be in economically distressed or high crime areas. Projects include, but are not limited to, vacant building acquisition by not-for-profit organizations, vacant land redevelopment, community center expansion or restoration, recreation facilities and mixed-use developments.
- Illinois Community Assets Fund ($40 million)
- Funding is broken into four pools to provide grants to local community development groups, financial institutions, venture enterprises and directly to businesses or communities that can demonstrate immediate job growth from projects.
- Because the funding comes in the form of grants, organizations can take more risk on programs for their communities.
- Safe Communities Capital Grant Program ($10 million)
- Police and public safety officials need the best and most advanced equipment to keep communities safe. This competitive grant program is available to local police departments to buy equipment that can help officers be more effective in their jobs.
